About

Welcome to my website! After a couple years of thinking about it, I finally decided to build one in the summer of 2013. Here you will find some my best/most interesting photography work, but there is also a blog feature, which I will try to keep up to date about my recent/upcoming travels, photography related events and anything else that is on my mind!

I guess you could say that my specialty is aviation. That started many years ago already when I gained interest in aircraft and flying. Later on, aviation also became the first subject in my photography life. It slowly developed into a big hobby and I’m now at a point where I also work in the aviation industry. As such, I consider my work to be my hobby.

Over the years, I’ve been fortunate enough to be able to combine my photography with work and this has led to being the in-house photographer for Groningen Airport Eelde. My photos are often used for their press bulletins, promotional activities, annual reports, newspapers/online articles, social media, etc.

My photography isn’t limited to just aviation and I also enjoy taking photos of a wide variety of subjects and experimenting with certain techniques in an attempt to master them. It keeps things interesting. In my spare time, I also love to travel and rarely leave my camera at home. You can find some of my adventures in the ‘trip reports’ section on this site.

Equipment
My photography life started in 2003, when I bought a very basic point-and-shoot camera. My first subjects were aircraft and average holiday photos. Roughly a year later, I bought a Canon 300D, which was at the time one of Canon’s newest DSLR’s and also my first DSLR camera. For zoom, I added the 70-200 F4 lens and that (combined with the standard 18-55 kit lens) was my first taste of “real” photography.

In 2008, I decided it was time for the next step and upgraded to a Canon 40D. I used that camera for 3 years, with the 300D as my back-up/second body. I also acquired a few new lenses in those 3 years, including the Canon 10-22 and Canon 100-400.

In 2011, I upgraded my body again, this time to a Canon 5DMkII. Since the 5D is a full-frame camera, my 10-22 wasn’t compatible anymore and so I needed a new wide-angle lens. After a bit of research, I decided to get the 17-40mm. Currently, the 5D, 17-40 and 100-400 is the gear that I use most.

In addition to my photography gear, I’ve also invested in GoPro cameras. At the moment, I own the Hero2 and Hero3+. They’re usually being put to work when recording my travel adventures, but I’ve also used them extensively at work, collecting a variety of unique footage. You can find all my movies on my YouTube channel.
